Updated Our Events Page

Sonoran Dawn has been receiving requests to do book promotions and events.

Authors from around the globe are asking for our services. We would like to keep our events as much in-house as possible. That means if you have one of our Book Cover Art pieces or have published your book through Sonoran Dawn, then you get first priority.

All other authors will be taken on a case by case basis.

We only have so much time and do not want to give anyone a lackluster presentation.

Read our Events page and refer to it in the future. As we grow, our services will grow with you.

Have a really weird day!

The Wheels are Turning

Publishing is a strange career choice for a writer, but also a natural one.

Authors are so programmed into believing that we need outside validation for our work. So we hungrily climb into the hamster wheel of publishing. We jump the hoops in hopes of one day getting a publishing contract.

With on demand services, writers are no longer slaves to the wheel. We can publish ourselves. The task of learning front matter, back matter, copyright law, and book cover art may look daunting at first but in time any writer can create a simple, yet professional book.

Electronic books are the easiest. PDFs are simpler still.  Print books need a little extra knowledge but not by much.

Some writers cannot juggle all the ins and outs of publishing. That is why Sonoran Dawn Studios was formed. Writers can have their own publishing career without having to pay to play. Yes, some services and fees are necessary but writers need to watch out for vanity publishing.

It is a fine line and with some research writers will know where not to cross and get trapped into the wheel of vanity presses.

Right now, Sonoran Dawn Studios is getting its training wheels tested. Soon other authors will make their way into our ranks.

Have a book or author you would like to see Sonoran Dawn Studios publish?

Have a really weird day!

As a Matter of Fact

Book matter is a question many authors and writers have about the content pages in their books. While formulating the front and back matter of an upcoming novel release, Sonoran Dawn had to research what is the good, bad, and overemphasis of book matter.

As a publisher of ebooks through Lulu, Sonoran Dawn looked into what authors should be addressing in their book's matter. A title and copyright pages are nice to have especially when the book is translated into print format. The title page is good for writing autographs. The copyright page is great for when someone tears off or loses the cover art. Both are very important pages when viewed from that perspective.

A dedication or preface can be left toward the back (i.e., Back Matter).

As authors and publishers we do not want to get so bogged down in the formalities of book matter to forget what truly matters: the readers and the story.  So if the matter matters to you but is not fundamental to the book, then leave that page for the back end. If the reader is interested, then he or she can peruse your musings after they have read the meat and potatoes of your imagination.

Make sense?

So Sonoran Dawn hopes this advice was helpful when publishing your first novel. Make the Front Matter short and sweet. 4 to 6 pages and get on with it. Anything else can be left to the end.

The End.

Print Versus Electronic Publications

People love their ebooks. How simple. How complete. Pick, pay, download, and read.

As a publisher, we must weigh our options. Is print more credible than electronic publishing? In the time where ebooks are as popular as print materials, there should be no difference between the two when authors list publications in their credits.

Yet there is still a stigma in certain circles. A print book credit is acceptable whereas publication on a website, blog, or ebook do not hold any or as much weight as their print counterpart.

Sonroan Dawn Studios does not drink from the same well. We believe all publications are worth their weight as credits. So we offer electronic publications, but in the future we will also publish print books.

People love the convenience of their ebooks. Authors and artists should garner the same respect for their electronic publishing credits. Time and energy to produce one produces the other.

So what do you believe? Should the stigma of epublishing disappear with other antiquated perceptions that went the way of horse and buggy?

We'll let you decide.

Have a really weird day!
