Getting Back to the Meaning of Publishing

To refresh everyone's memory, Sonoran Dawn Studios does not adhere to political correctness; PC culture is not intellectually honest.

Sonoran Dawn is advanced publishing. we are not a safe space echo chamber.

We are also not your parents and should not have had to institute behavior guidelines for our Social Media pages.

Our books, articles, and essays are about getting passed the manufactured mainstream narratives. We want our Creators to dig out the rich history, sketch the ancient architecture, and dive head first into the heart of the matter.

Creators cannot create wrapped in a blanket, sucking on a pacifier, while hiding under the bed of life. We want fearless. We want to broaden the discussion.

Creativity is a frequency... it is not a bought and paid for FM dial station.

So for those dauntless, unwavering individuals who will not compromise their intellectual, creative, or mental integrity to the ramblings of the hive mind and have dared to stay on: Thank you.

Thank you for the Past 2 1/2 Years

When Sonoran Dawn Studios began May 31, 2016, we never thought we would have such an impact. 

Here we are thirty-one months later. We have art, books, events, and now we are gong to expand into the world of services and courses. Learn what you can and leave the rest to us! 

We love everyone who has participated in one of our events, added to our anthologies, and published art and books with us. Thank you! We appreciate you so much. 

So we hope you stay with us and help us grow in 2019. We will begin our third year on June 1st. 

Can you believe how time flies? 

Pretty soon it will be our fifth, then tenth anniversary. 

Wonder what parties we should thrown then? 

We have time to come up with some ideas.

Updated Our Events Page

Sonoran Dawn has been receiving requests to do book promotions and events. 

Authors from around the globe are asking for our services. We would like to keep our events as much in-house as possible. That means if you have one of our Book Cover Art pieces or have published your book through Sonoran Dawn, then you get first priority.

All other authors will be taken on a case by case basis.

We only have so much time and do not want to give anyone a lackluster presentation.

Publishing is in the Seasoning

As we ponder our 2017 release schedule, we realize that autumn, winter, and spring are the book buying seasons, but we also want to publish in the summer too.

The publishing business can be fickle. What is en vogue now, may not be later. So what does a small publisher do? Keep the titles flowing, of course!

As we head into the winter season... December 21st is not that far away... we would like to release titles that go with the seasons. In the Name of Blood and The Descent were great for autumn. That Halloween theme is so popular. 

For winter 2017, Sonoran Dawn likes the thought of people cuddleh up by the fire, with blankets and puppies and hot cocoa, oh my! 

And, probably some zombies....

Art & Prints has Expanded

Our former Art & Prints page has now added Cover Art. 

The page is titled: Art, Covers, & Prints. This one will feature not only original art by our artists but covers for books, records, calendars, and journals. The cover art can be modified to fit certain size perimeters. 

Cover art may also be commissioned from one of our artists. Most of our art is abstract in nature and therefore does not use models or model releases. If you have any questions, please Private Message us through our Social Media links.

All good things must come to an end and so will our freebies. 

Bummer, right? Well you do have some time. The Descent will be free until October 1, 2016 with our other publications (except the EI Series) becoming fee oriented at the first of the new year. 

In the Name of Blood will be free from October 16th, its debut, until October 31, 2016 at 11:59pm. 

Soon print publications of our fantastic and popular books, essays, recipes, and poetry collections will follow.

Making the Right Size Choices

When publishing a novel or chapbook, there is a general standard size one can use. 

What if you want to be original, artistic, or if the information is extensive? Would a coffee table book be appropriate? 

Publishing is a course in research and development. Marketing skills application. College post exam. Artistic expressionist experiment. 

Publishing is also trying to be modern and stylistic while being traditional and simplistic. Cannot confuse people. Cannot be boring either. 

That is why we publish in the 6X9 inch range. Small but not too small. Large but not too large. The publication has enough room for great cover art as well as white space needed to make books not feel cramped.

Print Versus Electronic Publications

People love their ebooks. How simple. How complete. Pick, pay, download, and read. 

As a publisher, we must weigh our options. Is print more credible than electronic publishing? In the time where ebooks are as popular as print materials, there should be no difference between the two when authors list publications in their credits. 

Yet there is still a stigma in certain circles. A print book credit is acceptable whereas publication on a website, blog, or ebook do not hold any or as much weight as their print counterpart. 

Sonroan Dawn Studios does not drink from the same well. We believe all publications are worth their weight as credits. So we offer electronic publications, but in the future we will also publish print books. 

People love the convenience of their ebooks. Authors and artists should garner the same respect for their electronic publishing credits. Time and energy to produce one produces the other. 

So what do you believe? Should the stigma of epublishing disappear with other antiquated perceptions that went the way of horse and buggy?

Most novels are books of a series so the novels will produce many releases in future years like that of In the Name of Blood.

Schedule for 2017, What would You like to See?

We have six months before the new year begins. 

2016 started off with a negative patch but now has surpassed our expectations. We have Sonoran Dawn up and running. We are publishing. Everything looks great! 

So for 2017, we wanted to keep the positive momentum going. We asked ourselves: what would you like to see? More art? poetry? fiction novels? 

Sonoran Dawn is working on publishing something every month except June and December. These months will be promotional and rebuilding months. Sometimes even the most creative people need a break. These two months are ours.

2017 is sure to be another expansive year for the author and artist, DL Mullan. Her goals are to publish a novel and chapbook every year (Undawnted) in addition to writing articles for the VDP Gazette, creating artwork and cover art for her books (VSP), websites, plus she wants to be accepted into more anthologies. 

We are diligently working to have a publication schedule that is informative, educational, and entertaining.
