Updated Our Events Page

Sonoran Dawn has been receiving requests to do book promotions and events.

Authors from around the globe are asking for our services. We would like to keep our events as much in-house as possible. That means if you have one of our Book Cover Art pieces or have published your book through Sonoran Dawn, then you get first priority.

All other authors will be taken on a case by case basis.

We only have so much time and do not want to give anyone a lackluster presentation.

Read our Events page and refer to it in the future. As we grow, our services will grow with you.

Publishing is in the Seasoning

As we ponder our 2017 release schedule, we realize that autumn, winter, and spring are the book buying seasons, but we also want to publish in the summer too.

The publishing business can be fickle. What is en vogue now, may not be later. So what does a small publisher do? Keep the titles flowing, of course!

As we head into the winter season... December 21st is not that far away... we would like to release titles that go with the seasons. In the Name of Blood and The Descent were great for autumn. That Halloween theme is so popular.

For winter 2017, Sonoran Dawn likes the thought of people cuddleh up by the fire, with blankets and puppies and hot cocoa, oh my!

And, probably some zombies....

Holiday Hours

The little publishing company in the heart of the Sonoran Desert outlines holiday schedule for the rest of the year.

We have one more short essay to publish and then we will be on holiday schedule. We will pop in from time to time to give our readers and followers updates. We would like to have a 2017 release schedule done sometime in December.

We are still mulling over what direction we should go since 2016 was epic!

So stay tuned and keep the music playing!

In the List

With the national election come and gone, we are working on our very own list.

Do we want to go with creativity or nonfiction? Poetry or novels?

This week has felt like we have been in the list! Battles. Sword fights! Just kidding. That is for one of two books we are debating about releasing near Valentine's Day.

A paranormal romance, supernatural thriller... vampires, werewolves, and witches? Or just werewolves?

Oh my.

Have a really weird day.

Looking Ahead to 2017

We have been making our own list (and checking it twice!) on what our publishing house would like to do in the coming new year.

Would our readership like to see more essays, short stories, poetry, and/or novels?

Would you like to see us offer anthologies?

Or, something else?

Sonoran Dawn Studios has a variety of options in our library to publish for next year, but we would like to hear what you want us to do in addition. So post your comment in our Facebook page where this update will be posted.

We welcome your input!

Have a really weird day.

Harvest has Returned with Spooky Nights

October began today and has ushered in the harvest season, even the Harvest Moon has come and gone.

Well that leaves all of us to get into the Halloween spirit.

If you haven't downloaded your free version of The Descent: a darker breed of poetry, then you better hurry! The clock is ticking toward midnight. That's when the poetry book ends it's free status.

Our next publication is ready. Our first novel is going to be released on October 16, 2016.

We are excited to offer In the Name of Blood. DL Mullan's vampire crime drama. It's a one of a kind story with mature, adult supernatural heroes and villains.

In the meantime, check out our Author Spotlights for other great reads!

Have a really weird day.

As a Matter of Fact

Book matter is a question many authors and writers have about the content pages in their books. While formulating the front and back matter of an upcoming novel release, Sonoran Dawn had to research what is the good, bad, and overemphasis of book matter.

As a publisher of ebooks through Lulu, Sonoran Dawn looked into what authors should be addressing in their book's matter. A title and copyright pages are nice to have especially when the book is translated into print format. The title page is good for writing autographs. The copyright page is great for when someone tears off or loses the cover art. Both are very important pages when viewed from that perspective.

A dedication or preface can be left toward the back (i.e., Back Matter).

As authors and publishers we do not want to get so bogged down in the formalities of book matter to forget what truly matters: the readers and the story.  So if the matter matters to you but is not fundamental to the book, then leave that page for the back end. If the reader is interested, then he or she can peruse your musings after they have read the meat and potatoes of your imagination.

Make sense?

So Sonoran Dawn hopes this advice was helpful when publishing your first novel. Make the Front Matter short and sweet. 4 to 6 pages and get on with it. Anything else can be left to the end.

The End.

Busy Making Plans

We have worked to expand our schedule.

Undawnted has added sections like Spiritual Quest, Food and Recipes. Sonoran Dawn has published then had to revamp our novel publication schedule, dates overlapped too much. Now it is fixed.

We will have our 2017 schedule out in December of this year. We still plan on publishing more articles and research essays as well as a chapbook and novel for diversity of interest.

So thank you for Google+ hits and sharing links to our publications. We truly appreciate the support for our efforts.

Undawnted has added another fiction novel to its lineup as well as committed to release dates for them.

  • Book 2: Vampires are Judgmental October 2017
  • Book 3: Vampires are Eternal October 2018

Knight's Way Crossing ....2021 - 2023
Nocturnal Redemption ....2025 - 2026

Schedule for 2017, What would You like to See?

We have six months before the new year begins.

2016 started off with a negative patch but now has surpassed our expectations. We have Sonoran Dawn up and running. We are publishing. Everything looks great!

So for 2017, we wanted to keep the positive momentum going. We asked ourselves: what would you like to see? More art? poetry? fiction novels?

Sonoran Dawn is working on publishing something every month except June and December. These months will be promotional and rebuilding months. Sometimes even the most creative people need a break. These two months are ours.

2017 is sure to be another expansive year for the author and artist, DL Mullan. Her goals are to publish a novel and chapbook every year (Undawnted) in addition to writing articles for the VDP Gazette, creating artwork and cover art for her books (VSP), websites, plus she wants to be accepted into more anthologies.

We are diligently working to have a publication schedule that is informative, educational, and entertaining.

Have a really weird day!
